Total Trainer Home Gym Resistance Formula

The principle behind the Total Trainer is to use your own body weight on a moving board as the resistance. So, you are actually exercising directly against your own body weight.

The desired percentage that you exercise against is determined by varying the angle of the Glide Board and Incline Rail. Selecting various heights on the Resistance Rail for the different exercises represents a varying percentage of your body weight that you exercise against, ranging from light on the lower levels to very heavy on the top levels. To increase the resistance further optional Weights can be added to the optional Power Bar. Up to 100 lbs. (50 lbs. each side) can be added to the Power Bar.

The Table below is an indication of the percentage of your body weight against which you are working. "A" is with the ropes attached to the Glide Board Pulley on the Blide Board. This rope position is used when performing exercises where the Rope and Handles are used like pullovers or flys. "B" is with the Rope detached from the Glide Board Pulley on the Glide Board. This rope position is used when the Handles and Rope are not used while performing exercises, such as the leg press or pull-ups.

To calculate the weight you are working against, multiply your weight by the level percentage.

  • Example: A 150 lb. person at Level 8 without Glide Board Pulley is 150 x 56% = 84 lbs. being lifted.

If free weights are added to the Power Bar, add the weight to your body weight before calculating the percentage.

  • Example: A 150 lbs. person plus 100 lbs. of free weights at Level 8 without Glide Board Pulley is 250 x 56% = 140 lbs.
